Re: UNH Student Threatens Faculty, Students, and Children with Sexual Violence

I have known ken for at least 6 years now and he is probably the most nonviolent being I know. Just because some woman got offended by his blatant sarcasm (if you even read his entire journal or just skimmed to see what you wanted to) he is being racked over the fires. Has he ever even in the slightest had any violent actions or anything towards the said individuals? NO! It is just Miss Whitney crying and trying to become the victim and by doing so is hindering the whole movement she is trying to do by showing herself to be a whiney brat crying over split milk, and thus discrediting herself. Why don’t we do something about actual crimes against women and not some 20 year old venting in his own private journal of random shit to vent and have his own form of ‘comedia de arte.’ Did he ever go around campus going “HEY READ THIS JOURNAL” forcing it on to other people? His journalism had nothing to do with what was in his blog. Hell I write huge research papers for college but I also write on the men’s stalls. Does this mean I should have a paper I wrote become void because I wrote something on a bathroom wall?
I remember reading about a feminist activity on the UNH campus of many women caring scissors threatening to cut off male genitalia. Now take Kens private online blog with no motivation to do any of the sarcastic remarks he made, to a bunch of women actually threatening men to their faces. I think we have the wrong person on the roasting stick ladies and gentlemen. If I was Ken and had to deal with the man hating radical threats of physical abuse I would have a few choice words to say about those individuals as well. I believe Miss Whitney and her big self righteous bubble needs a good popping because it appears to me people don’t hate her for being a feminist, they hate her because she is a horrible spoiled kid without a brain.

Once again, ad hominem wins the day! Thanks for lowering the quality of conversation here, kamui.

Re: UNH Student Threatens Faculty, Students, and Children with Sexual Violence

How was there any quality to begin with for this topic, seriously? This whole thing is so out of proportion it just goes to show what is wrong with a lot of things in this country and its people. It is just down right silly. And of course bringing Whitney’s character into the cross fire would be done; it has already been done to Ken. If you break down just because your motives are being questioned from a little comment and get upset by it no wonder this whole fiasco happened in the first place. Oh and by the way Ad Hominem is used when trying to discredit the person only and make the claim they made false by showing their beliefs, and not the issue at hand. I went over the issue and defended it then moved on to her. Learn to read and stop being the victims.

Attention: You Are Wrong.

Then what is this, tubbington?

"...they hate her because she is a horrible spoiled kid without a brain."

Yes, yes, I'm sure that's why people hate her. Actually, no wait, you're wrong. Let's have a little lesson, shall we?

An ad hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). This type of "argument" has the following form:

1. Person A makes claim X.
2. Person B makes an attack on person A.
3. Therefore A's claim is false.

Just to make things painfully clear to you, I'll fill in the blanks.

1. Ms. Williams claims Ken's threats in his livejournal constitute violence against women.
2. Kamui says that Ms. Williams is a spoiled brat without a brain.
3. Therefore, Ken's threats do not constitute violence against women.

No, no, no. Please see me after class.

get your facts straight

"I remember reading about a feminist activity on the UNH campus of many women caring scissors threatening to cut off male genitalia."

"If I was Ken and had to deal with the man hating radical threats of physical abuse I would have a few choice words to say about those individuals as well."

The activity you are referring to, is the now infamous Patriarchy Slam in which women wore scissors around their necks which they used to pop balloons which spelled out the word PATRIARCHY. They were worn and used as a SYMBOL. No threats were ever made towards anybody, and most certainly no threats were launched at individuals. "Man hating feminists" didn't give a shit about Ken Gagnon until we realized that he has been making threats against people, so Ken was not "dealing" with threats of physical abuse anymore than anyone else was. He may be angered by some feminists on campus, but he does not have the right to threaten them.

I say we take the oil. I don't think people realize the super-crisis mode the North Country is in. When you talk about the cost of fuel oil and how it hits a family, our average family income is half what it is down in southern New Hampshire.
