I say we take the oil. I don't think people realize the super-crisis mode the North Country is in. When you talk about the cost of fuel oil and how it hits a family, our average family income is half what it is down in southern New Hampshire.

Secondly, women are also an oppressed group. The biggest of them all, in fact. While you may admire Eve Ensler and Amy Goodman, as a pro-feminist man who has had the opportunity to befriend and listen to many women feminists, I believe they have a lot of explaining to do to other women. Amy Goodman, for all her good work, (and I mean that sincerely, nor do I denigrate her near-miss skull bashing) doesn't seem to have a problem with the sex industry. She interviwed Larry Flynt, of all people, back in 2004. Larry Flynt would definitely be elected as president of the misogyny club. He is, by the way, a baby boomer. Furthermore, despite all its criticism of globalization, DemocracyNow! doesn't seem to give a flying fucking shit about one of the largest industries to arise as a result of globalization: the international sex industry. I would encourage you to visit hustlingtheleft.com to gain more insight on this.
As for Eve Ensler, I admire her in the same way I admire Jackson Pollack. She did something no one has ever done before, but that being said, a 2 year old could have done it. She is not a good writer, for starters. She has some monologues that are well-written, but most of her stuff is stream-of-conciousness crap. Furthermore, her 3rd wave brand of feminism has done nothing to advance women. I'm glad that there are women out there who have come to love their vaginas as a result of her work, but the very fact that most of the Vagina Monologues cast women as Woman=Vagina is a serious problem. Also, I would love to a see transgressive play about women that doesn't spend most of its time discussing and glorifying women and their status as fuck objects. Finally, how rich do you think Eve Ensler has gotten off of the Vagina Monologues?
But you know what, I can't blame Eve and Amy too much. Unfortunately, many women have internalized their oppression to a greater or lesser degree, and fall victim to defending men's interests in exchange for pseudo-privileges. (The ability to have award-winning plays and radio shows, for example.)
And finally, I ended my screed on a positive note. I said, and I quote, "You're not all bad, though. Some of you never left your ideals behind." I think Keith McHenry and Eric Schlosser (I loved Fast Food Nation, by the way) would probably fall into that category. Ron Kovic definitely falls into that category.
I think I made it pretty clear I was not talking about most of the people you mentioned.
But in general, baby boomers fucked it up pretty badly for us younger people.
And finally, if you have to base your arguments on exceptions to the rule, (I know it's hard not to, as this a favorite pastime of postmoderism, also brought to us by the baby boomers)your argument is probably weak.
In conclusion, thank you for reading, and thank you for your comments, I truly do appreciate it.
